The blog post title says it all. Erin Bode and her band were a pleasure to work with, even more so from the confines of a tiny elevator at The Cheshire.
A few folks have asked about what I use to stabilize the camera when filming. Up to this point, all of the LISTEN videos, except for the one featuring Tef Poe, were made by hand-holding a Canon EOS-1D Mark IV camera and moving really carefully. For the Tef Poe video, I used a device called a Jaybilizer that works surprisingly well considering the fact that my camera/lens combo is about one and a half pounds over the suggested weight limit. There is no way that I could have used that device in the cramped elevator for lack of space, as was the case with many of the other videos due to desired camera angles. If I ever decide to change the “one-take” format of the series, I’m sure I’ll use the Jaybilizer or some other stabilizing method more often. But for now, within the current framework of filming bands live and unedited, I like the organic feel and the flexibility of being able to achieve different angles while moving freely within small spaces.
