La Avispa is a luchadora with the Lucha Libre Volcanica organization, which celebrates
the traditional form of Mexican wrestling. The traditions of lucha libre wrestling are so revered
in Mexico that, in many cases, even when the wrestlers are out and about in public, they refuse to
remove their masks. The mask represents their identity and dedication to the sport and the culture
of lucha libre, which dates back to the early 1900s.
